About us

Background

In the summer of 2006, members of the equestrian trade industry began their efforts to become a unified organization for the industry. They focused their attention on presenting a trade show; prior to that time, equestrian trade shows were presented and managed by several different exposition management companies. In January 2007, an informally organized industry group that called itself the American Equestrian Trade Association (AETA) participated in its first trade show by offering guidance and direction that represented the best interests of the equestrian trade community. The show was successful beyond expectations however it was not a Show owned and managed by its industry participants to advance the industry and its members.

In the winter of 2007, members of the equestrian trade community recognized that to truly represent the best interest of those in the industry, it was imperative to formally organize as a trade association. They needed to become an official, incorporated, non-profit trade association that offered a range of services and networking possibilities as well as present an Association-driven trade show. Since all founding advisors were volunteers who operated their own businesses, they realized the need to hire a professional association management company (AMC) to guide the process and manage the business of the Association.

In spring 2007, as a result of the efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers and their chosen AMC, The Association Advantage LLC, the American Equestrian Trade Association was officially brought into being. Complete with bylaws, a Board of Directors, committees, a bank account, a business location and a guiding vision to create an inclusive network, the association is positioned to serve as an anchor for the equestrian trade community.

We encourage you to become an active member and participant in the Association’s activities and growth. Many hands and voices are needed to create a strong organization that fulfills its mission.

Why was the American Equestrian Trade Association formed?

The Association’s purpose extends far beyond the presentation of a well-run trade show that connects those in the industry, AETA’s primary objectives include:

  • Build a strong industry network of individuals with common interests that will promote the well-being of the industry as a whole.
  • Act as an industry resource and provide a strong voice representing all sectors of our industry.
  • Help members do business more cost effectively and efficiently
  • Conduct valuable research beyond the capacity of individual companies
  • Build cooperative relationships with industry associations and media
  • Encourage and nurture interest in equestrian activities in the United States
  • Negotiate on behalf of our trade show exhibitors

What will the American Equestrian Trade Association offer you as a member?

By Laws
The by laws of an Association are the guiding principles by which the Association is governed. Before an Association can incorporate and be granted tax exempt status, by laws are written and submitted to the state of its incorporation and the Internal Revenue Service. AETA was incorporated in Massachusetts as a non-profit trade association and has been granted official 501c6 tax exempt status by the IRS.
