August 2, 2008 - All nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m. (Hand in at the Trade Fair, or email or fax to the AETA office at equestriantrade@verizon.net 781/245-6487)
 

Revised Schedule for Nominations and Election

  • Call for Nominations due by noon, August 3rd at the Trade Fair
    or by noon, Friday, August 1st by email to equestriantrade@verizon.net
  • Voting begins on the morning of Monday, August 4th at the Trade Fair
  • Ballot mailed to all current members on August 6th, as well as posted on the web site
  • Ballots due back to the AETA office by 5 p.m., September 5, by fax or mail
  • 2009 Board will be announced in mid-September and assume full responsibilities January 2009

Eligibility for nomination

  • All employees of AETA member manufacturer/distributor and retailer companies, or independent sales agents are eligible for nomination.
  • Additionally, all members are invited to work with AETA’s committees no matter what type of membership they hold. If you are interested in becoming more involved, although not interested in running for an elected position, please contact the AETA office.
  • Our By Laws state: “AETA will not discriminate on the basis of race, handicap, color, creed, nationality, age, sex, religious belief or sexual orientation in its membership selection, nomination for offices or appointments to committees.”

Nominations Process (excerpts from By Laws)

      • Nominations for the Board of Directors may be made by any member in good standing.
      • Members in good standing may nominate themselves.
      • There shall be a Nominating Committee consisting of three voting members in good standing appointed by the President.
      • Anyone who has become a member of a Nominating Committee may not be nominated by that committee for any office in the year in which they serve on the Committee.

The Nominating Committee shall be responsible for the preparation and dissemination of election guidelines, job descriptions, and nomination forms with which members may nominate candidates or themselves for office.

The deadline for submission of nominations shall be as stated in the election guidelines. After the deadline for the submission of nominations for offices, the Nominating Committee shall meet for the purpose of reviewing and assessing the nominees for Officers and Directors with respect to their eligibility and shall prepare a slate/ballot of the nominees consisting of at least one (1) candidate for each of the various positions whose election will serve, in its opinion, the best interests of the Association.

Eligibility requirements for open positions (excerpts from By Laws)

  • President-Elect
  • Manufacturer or Retail membership in good standing
  • Active participation in AETA
  • At least one full term of service as a Director
  • Willing and able to meet the stated responsibilities of the office
    • Vice President/Secretary, Treasurer, Voting Directors
  • Manufacturer, Retail or Sales Agent/Independent Representative membership in good standing
  • Active participation in AETA
  • Willing and able to meet the stated responsibilities of the position

Basics of AETA Governance (excerpts from By Laws)
The governing body of AETA shall be a Board of Directors consisting of both Officers and Directors of AETA. The number of voting Board members must be an odd number with the minimum number of combined voting officers and directors set at nine.

  • Effort will be made to ensure that the governing body of AETA is representative of the various voting membership constituencies in terms of business size and type.
  • Officers: President, President-elect, Vice President/Secretary, Treasurer and Immediate Past President
  • Voting Directors: Individuals drawn from the retail and manufacturing sectors of AETA in proportion to their numbers in the general membership
Voting Director: One individual Sales Agent/Independent Representative member
