What makes the AETA International Trade Fair a must see, must go event?

The AETA International Trade Fair brings together the highest quality and greatest variety of exhibitors and buyers in a world class facility. It’s the most cost effective way to do business and to network with the best in the industry.

Here are some special features and opportunities for greater participation while at our Trade Fair.

  • “Going Green” Initiatives

Exhibitors who have told us about their “green” products and processes will receive recognition at the Show as well as the chance to be featured in the AETA E-newsletter. We can all learn from their good efforts.

  • Mannequin Merchandiser Pageant – Bring Your Products to Life!

Mannequins are the perfect way to provide your customers a hands-on, interactive and tactile experience that showcase and merchandise lines to prospective clients.
The Mannequins will be judged by attending buyers, and a winning buyer will be drawn from all votes submitted to win a Platinum Ticket good for two free nights at the host hotel at the January 2009 Trade Fair. The exhibitor entering the most eye-catching and original showpiece will be crowned Miss AETA 2008 and the designer will be awarded two free mannequins for display at the January 2009 AETA International Trade Fair!

  • Best Stand Awards

Again, buyers will be asked to judge the best exhibits at the Trade Fair. Ballots will be entered for a chance to win a Platinum Ticket for the January 2009 AETA International Trade Fair in Baltimore, MD, good for two complimentary hotel rooms at the host hotel.
Our Best Stand winners will be awarded as follows:
Best Small Exhibit (3 booths or under) - 1 free booth at the Jan. 31 – Feb. 2, 2009 Trade Fair.
Best Medium Exhibit (4 - 7 booths) - 1 free booth at the Jan. 31 – Feb. 2, 2009 Trade Fair.
Best Large Exhibit (8 or more booths) - 2 free booths at the Jan. 31 – Feb. 2, 2009 Trade Fair.

  • AETA Bi-Annual Meeting and Reception (Saturday evening)
  • Market Party Gala (Sunday evening)

Baltimore!
Baltimore is one of the most vital and walkable cities in the U.S. The Baltimore Convention Center is just blocks from the jewel of Baltimore, the renowned Inner Harbor.
Apres Trade Fair - Whether you’re interested in dining, shopping, entertainment, or just people watching, you will be drawn to the Inner Harbor. But, that isn’t all there is to Baltimore. The city’s rich history, maritime roots and cultural heritage are on display in a wide array of historic sites, museums, architecture and harbor cruises.
There truly is something for everyone in this city of southern charm and big city amenities. Think cuisine from haute to howdy (and don’t forget the crab cakes); romantic sunset cruises, water taxis and gondola rides; charming streets with an amazing variety of historic architectural styles; shopping at upscale malls or the bustling Lexington Market, the world’s largest, continuously running open-stall food market; major league baseball at Camden Yards; performing arts in the theatres or performing seals at the National Aquarium. Visit www.baltimore.org/visitors for all there is to do and see.

AETA BiAnnual Meeting
February 2, 2008
Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida

Agenda
Welcome and Presentation of Booth Awards - Tom MacGuinness, AETA President
Standing Committee Reports

  • Financial - Don Warren, Treasurer
  • Nominations and Elections - Judith McSwain, Chair, Nominations and Elections Committee
  • Membership - Bruce Carlton, Chair, Membership Committee

Guest Speakers

Trade Show

  • Frances Bowers, President Elect
  • Kerri Kent, Vice President

Attendees and exhibitors were invited to a reception beginning at 6:00 p.m., followed by the BiAnnual Meeting of the Association. President Tom MacGuinness provided the welcome and announced the winners of the best exhibit awards:
Polo Gear Inc.
Kerrits Equestrian Apparel
German Equestrian Manufacturers

The judges included Robert Patterson of Atlanta Saddlery, Barbara Karsten of Tack ‘n Togs, Bruce Carlton of BMC Enterprises and Crystal Bennett of the World Equestrian Games.

At this Show, AETA presented certificates to recognize new products, and we will offer a full awards program for new product recognition at the Baltimore Show. Emily Esterson of Equestrian Retailer has volunteered to chair the awards program.

Tom thanked the AETA Show producers, Hopper Exposition, for doing a terrific job. He then presented a bouquet to Ginger Estepp for her excellent service.

Next, the Standing Committee Reports were presented. Tom thanked Steve Day for his service as Treasurer during the official organization of the Association and then introduced our new Treasurer, Don Warren of Cabin Branch Tack Shop. Don provided the end-of-year financial report and noted that copies were available for all to review. AETA completed 2007 modestly in the black, a very positive indicator that is unusual for a new Association. Contact the AETA office if you’d like a copy emailed to you.

Standing Committee Reports continued with a Nominations and Elections report from committee chair, Judy McSwain of Fleeceworks, Inc.. Judy reviewed the nominations and elections schedule and basic eligibility for office. That information is posted on the Board page of the web site. Most important, she emphasized that all members have the power to affect the association’s future by nominating themselves or others. She reminded those in attendance that to have a voice, you must first be a member, and she urged all to become involved.

The final standing committee report was provided by Membership Committee Chair Bruce Carlton, BMC Enterprises. He reported 81 members, with a mix of industry businesses: 21 retailers, 38 manufacturers/distributors, 12 sales agents, 3 industry partners, 6 suppliers, 1 affiliate (our numbers have grown since then). He encouraged active engagement in the work of the Association on behalf of the industry.

One of the Association’s goals is to encourage equestrian recreation since without riders, there is no business. To that end, we have formed alliances with several important associations. Bruce introduced representatives of three organizations who briefly described their initiatives and how we can work together to promote industry visibility and growth. Our guest speakers included Deb Balliet, CEO of the Equestrian Land Conservation Resource; Bob Cacchione, Founder and Executive Director of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association; and Crystal Bennett, Marketing Director of the World Equestrian Games to be held for the first time in the US in 2010.

The last item on the agenda was information about the upcoming trade show to be held August 2-4, 2008 in Baltimore, MD. Referencing our guest speakers, Frances Bowers noted that we’re bigger than a trade show and that we need to grow riders. She noted that on day one of this Show, 278 buyers from 31 states and 5 different companies, representing 121 stores, met with our exhibitors. She then called up Kerri Kent to discuss some of the special features of the AETA Trade Fair.

Kerri emphasized that our industry is about relationships and that the Trade Show, where we can touch products and be together, is key. She noted that we initiated the Retailers Resource Row for this Show to spotlight general business services useful to all businesses as well as equestrian interest-organizations that encourage ridership. Retailers Row will grow larger.

She discussed our Fashion Vignettes, lively arrangements of mannequins interspersed through the Trade Fair. They can be rented by apparel exhibitors and allow buyers to view products from various manufacturers outside of the traditional booth space.
Kerri indicated that we had excellent participation in the Green Practices recognition program begun at this Show. We will compile what we learned from participants and make that information available to members.

Most important Kerri encouraged members to step up and take part in the various AETA initiatives. A few Board members cannot accomplish all of our ambitious goals and programs without the help, in big and small ways, of a greater number of the Association’s members.

After the official program ended, Board members remained to answer any questions.
